We have a class of 30 students : 20 students study english, 7 students study spanish and 3 students study both languages. How many students study no language ?
This kind of exercise may present reading difficulties but can be solved very simply thanks to Venn’s diagram
At first, we can put the number 3 which is the number of students who study both languages. Now, we deduce the rest we get 17 students who only study english, 4 students who only study spanish and 6 students who study no language.Thus, the answer is there are 6 students who study neither english nor spanish.
